Consensus Collective Minutes
November 2002 Meeting

Attending: Fred Herman, Bonnie Kelly, Judith Kidd, Suzanne Kryder, Mary Roy, Absent: Christian Hall, Hilary Heyl

After a five-minute sit we acted on the following agenda items:

NVC -- After review of both positive and negative aspects of the NVC training process we decided that facilitators could use NVC techniques as a tool, when appropriate, such as in time of conflict. Simplified explanation of the four steps with lists of possible feelings and needs will be used as appropriate to gradually make participants aware of and comfortable with aspects of the technique.

Stage Two of Consensus Process -- We practiced identifying clarifying questions and stating concerns re a proposal. These step require more practice and will be taken up again at a future meeting.

Consensus Collective Group -- We decided to schedule the Workshop for February 15 at Suzanne's home, from 1 to 5 pm, with possible pot luck time afterward. Presentations will be given on the strategies we have reviewed.

Decisions about the continuation process for the CC will be made with group input at that meeting. Our next meeting will be devoted primarily to planning and practice for the Workshop. TOPICS: Suzanne - NVC, Mary - Satir model, Bonnie & Fred - Quaker's process, Judith & Christian - Consensus model, Hilary - Motivational Interviewing

Debrief -- Fred felt some confusion during discussion of the consensus process. We noted balance needed between facilitator participating in discussions or just facilitating. Facilitator needs restraint if feelings on topic discussed may divert her/him from just facilitating the process.

Next Meeting -- Friday, January 24, at Mary's house, 3:00 socializing, 3:30 to 5:30 meeting
AGENDA: 1) Sit, 2) The Workshop, 3) A presentation by Hilary on Motivational Interviewing.
